Vitabact is an antimicrobial drug used in ophthalmology.
Release form and composition
Make drops Vitabak eye 0.05%. 1 ml of the drug contains 500 µg of picloxidine hydrochloride, as well as auxiliary components: purified water, anhydrous dextrose, polysorbate 80.
In plastic bottles, droppers of 10 ml.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Vitabact is intended for:
- Treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the anterior chamber of the eye caused by susceptible microorganisms to the active substance of the drug;
- Prevention of infectious complications after operations in the anterior chamber;
- Preparing the patient for eye surgery.
Vitabact is prescribed to newborns for the treatment of dacryocystitis (inflammation of the lacrimal canal), as well as blepharitis, keratitis, conjunctivitis.
According to the instructions, Vitabact has no contraindications to use, with the exception of hypersensitivity to the current or auxiliary components of the drug.
It is not recommended to use Vitabact during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with the exception of vital indications.
Dosing and Administration
Drops of Vitabakt are intended for local application, are issued in the form of a tight bottle dropper. To open it, you need to tighten the lid until it stops - a spike is located on its inner side, which will pierce the dropper.
During the application of Vitabact, the head should be tilted back and the gaze should be directed upwards. The solution is instilled into the lower conjunctival sac, slightly pulling back the eyelid. When using the drug, it is important to be careful and avoid contacting the dropper tip with the skin of the face, hands, mucous membranes and other surfaces that may contaminate the solution inside the vial.
For the treatment of infectious and inflammatory eye diseases, Vitabact is prescribed 1 drop in each eye 2-6 times a day. Drug treatment duration is 10 days.
For newborns, dose adjustment is not required.
In order to prevent infectious processes after eye surgery, 1 drop of Vitabact is dropped up to 4 times a day.
During the preparation of the patient for the operation on the eye, 2 drops of Vitabact immediately drop before the surgical intervention.
The use of Vitabact by patients is well tolerated, side effects are extremely rare. Mostly these are allergic reactions in the form of redness of the mucous membrane of the eye (due to hypersensitivity to the components of the drug), as well as irritation of the conjunctiva.
Patients should be aware that when using Vitabact with other ophthalmologic preparations together, it is recommended to observe a break between their uses for at least 15 minutes.
Vitabact does not affect the eye lenses, does not stain them, but wearing them is contraindicated during infectious and inflammatory diseases of the eye.
It is forbidden to use Vitabact in the anterior chamber of the eye or for subconjunctival injections.
During treatment with Vitabact, patients may experience a decrease in clarity of vision, which requires caution in controlling potentially dangerous mechanisms that require increased concentration of attention.
Drug interaction of Vitabact with other drugs was not detected. It is possible that a decrease in its action in the combined use with glucocorticosteroids.

Terms and conditions of storage
According to the instructions, Vitabact is stored in a dry, dark and cool place for no longer than 2 years from the date of issue. After opening the bottle it can be used for 30 days.
