Release form and composition
Available drug in the form of 0.5% homogeneous ointment from white to light yellow color, one gram of which contains:
- As the active substance - retinol palmitate (retinol) in an amount of 5 mg;
- Auxiliary components: 95% ethyl alcohol, glycerol, liquid paraffin, butylhydroxyanisole, butylhydroxy-toluene, emulsion wax and purified water.
In pharmacies, Videstest ointment comes in a 35 mg aluminum tube packed in cardboard boxes.
Indications for use
Retinol - active ingredient Videstima - a vitamin that has a beneficial effect on the whole body and in particular on the skin:
- Rejuvenates cell populations;
- It inhibits keratinization processes (cell death and keratinization in the epidermal layer of the skin);
- Enhances cell division processes;
- Prevents the development of hyperkeratosis;
- Stimulates skin regeneration.
Considering the described properties of retinol, Videstest is recommended for use in inflammatory conditions and skin diseases, which are accompanied by dryness and are characterized by slow healing and / or disturbance of keratinization processes. In particular, it is prescribed for:
- Abrasions, wounds and cracks;
- Burns, frostbite;
- Erosions, ulcers;
- Dermatitis, including seborrheic;
- Atopic dermatitis outside the acute stage;
- Some forms of eczema;
Ointment softens the skin and replenishes the lack of vitamin in it, it can be used with nipple cracks in nursing mothers. It will help with dry skin of any origin, for example, people who often wash their hands, as well as small children.
According to the instructions, Widtesting can also be used for various dermatoses in order to activate reparative processes and, consequently, to prevent skin atrophy (after the end of the course of treatment with glucocorticosteroid drugs).
It is necessary to note one more important property of retinol - an antitumor effect, therefore, as an auxiliary drug, Videstestim is prescribed for epithelial tumors, as well as for leukemia and mastopathy.
The use of Widdest, according to the instructions, is contraindicated:
- In inflammatory diseases of the skin in the acute phase;
- When hypervitaminosis A;
- In the first trimester of pregnancy;
- With increased individual sensitivity to retinol or any auxiliary component of the drug.
If there is evidence, the drug can be used in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, but strictly according to the doctor's prescription, who should evaluate the expected benefits for the expectant mother and the potential risks to the development of her child.
Dosing and Administration
Ointment Videstest is intended only for external use. It should be applied in a thin layer on the affected skin twice a day with an interval of about 12 hours, i.e. early in the morning and late in the evening.
In the presence of diseases that are accompanied by a strong peeling of the skin, the use of an occlusive dressing is allowed.
Before applying the ointment on cracks and abrasions, it is recommended to pre-treat it with an antiseptic.
For dry skin, it is recommended to apply Videstim once a day - for the night.
In case of nipple cracks in nursing mothers, the remedy must also be applied twice a day, but after feeding, and before the next feeding, the mammary glands should be washed with warm water with baby soap and rinsed well.
The duration of treatment with Videstim in each particular case is determined individually, taking into account the indications, the tolerability of the drug and the effectiveness of the therapy. The course can last from 4 to 12 weeks.
According to numerous reviews, in the overwhelming majority of cases the drug is well tolerated and provided that the recommended regimen is observed, Videstim does not have any side effects.
In some cases, it is possible reddening of the skin and increased itching in places of application of the ointment. If such adverse reactions occur, it is recommended to temporarily cancel the drug.
In the presence of hypersensitivity or individual intolerance to retinol / any auxiliary component of the agent, there is a possibility of the development of allergic reactions.
No cases of overdose have been recorded in medical practice. This is probably due to the minimal absorption of the drug due to its external use.
The simultaneous use of Videstema with other drugs, which include retinol, as well as with other retinoids (including adapalen, tazaroten, tretinoin, acitretin), is contraindicated. there is a risk of developing hypervitaminosis A, manifested by:
- In adults: drowsiness, headache, lethargy, facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, pain in the bones of the lower limbs, gait disorder;
- In children: drowsiness, vomiting, sweating, skin rashes, sometimes - fever.
You need to know that Videsteam is incompatible in antibiotics belonging to the tetracycline series.
According to belonging to the same pharmacological subgroup (“Retinoids for topical use”) and the similarity of the mechanism of action of the Videstestim analogues, the following drugs are also used externally: Adaklin, Adapalen, Adolen, Differin, Isotrexin, Klenzit, Radevit, Radevit Active, Retasol, Retinoic ointment, Effezel.
Terms and conditions of storage
Videstim is a drug approved for dispensing from pharmacies as a non-prescription drug. According to the manufacturer's recommendations, it should be stored at room temperature (not exceeding 25 ºС) in a place protected from sunlight. Under these conditions, the shelf life of the ointment is 2 years.
