Sodium oxybutyrate - a drug that has a sedative, muscle relaxant, hypnotic and narcotic effect.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - injection solution (in 10 ml ampoules, in a cardboard bundle 10 ampoules complete with ampoule knife).
Active ingredient - sodium hydroxybutyrate: in 1 ampoule - 2 g.
Indications for use
- Sleep disturbances;
- Neurotic disorders;
- Postoperative psychosis;
- Severe hypoxic conditions.
In surgical practice, the drug is used for induction anesthesia when performing non-defective operations with preservation of spontaneous breathing.
- Severe toxicosis in pregnant women, occurring with hypokalemia and hypertensive syndrome;
- Myasthenia gravis;
Dosing and Administration
Sodium oxybutyrate is administered intravenously in 5-40% glucose solution at a rate of 1-2 ml per minute.
The dose depends on the weight of the patient and is 0.05-0.12 g per kilogram of weight.
- Nausea and vomiting;
- Psychomotor agitation;
- Impaired breathing
With an overdose, twitching of the extremities and agitation, in rare cases - respiratory arrest, are possible.
Sodium oxybutyrate enhances the action of analgesic drugs and anesthetics.
