Mytnik (Pedicularis) is a large genus of perennial (more rarely - annual and biennial) plants of the Zarazich family, including approximately 600 species. In Russia, the most common marsh mytnik (Pedicularis palustris), popularly referred to as feverish grass, lousy grass, nnidny grass, vishnitsa, marsh cornflowers, serpentine.
For medicinal purposes, the roots and grass of mytnik are used. The greatest value in their composition are flavonoids, alkaloids and glycoside aukubin (renentin).

Indications for use
Traditional medicine recommends the use of marsh cornflowers for uterine bleeding, heavy menstruation, respiratory disorders, pneumonia and tuberculosis, migraines and severe headaches, diarrhea.
As an anti-inflammatory and diuretic mytnik prescribed for nephritis and diseases of the urinary tract.
As a sedative, the plant is effective for neurasthenia, depression and other disorders of the nervous system.
Snake's outward appearance is used for pediculosis (hence such popular names of mytnik as louse, stitching and nidny grass), dandruff, cuts, open wounds and other skin lesions.
Detoxification property of the grass will help with insect bites and meat products poisoning, antihelminthic - with helminthic invasions.
Mytnik is a poisonous plant! It is necessary to use drugs based on it with caution, after consulting a doctor and strictly in the dosages prescribed by him. If the dose is exceeded, serious and even life-threatening poisoning is possible.
Mytnik is contraindicated in children and nursing mothers.
The plant increases the tone of the uterus, so it can not be used for pregnant women.
Mytnik home remedies
- Infusion used for uterine bleeding: 1 tbsp. herbs pour 1 cup boiling water, cover with lid, for 3 hours, insist and strain. Take orally before meals for 2 tsp. 3 times a day;
- Universal decoction mytnika: 5 tbsp. crushed dried raw material pour 1 liter of water, boil for 15 minutes, then remove from heat and insist for 3 hours with the lid closed, drain. Broth can wash open wounds and cuts; apply moistened gauze dressings to bruises (for 3-4 minutes); with seborrhea - wash the head daily for 7 days at night; for dandruff - use after washing hair as a conditioner and / or rub into the scalp at night. In case of pediculosis, it is good to moisten the head with decoction, put on a plastic cap and roll it over with a cloth, after 1 hour wash off and rinse the hair with warm water;
- Diarrhea medicine: 4 tbsp. herbs pour 1 liter of boiling water for 3 hours to insist. To accept inside on 1 item of l. up to 4 times a day;
- Broth from severe headaches and migraines: 2 tbsp. dry herb pour 2 liters of water, cook until then, until there is 1 liter of broth, cool and strain. Take inside 200 ml up to 3 times per day.
