Monural is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug from the group of phosphonic acid derivatives; uroantiseptic.
Release form and composition
Monural is produced in the form of granules from which a solution is prepared for oral administration: white, with a tangerine smell (in multi-layer laminated bags, in a cardboard bundle 1 bag).
Active ingredient - fosfomycin trometamol: in 1 package - 3.754 g (including fosfomycin - 2 g) or 5.631 g (including fosfomycin - 3 g).
Auxiliary components: sucrose, saccharin, orange and tangerine flavors.
Indications for use
- Bacterial non-specific urethritis;
- Acute bouts of recurrent bacterial cystitis;
- Acute bacterial cystitis;
- Postoperative urinary tract infections;
- Asymptomatic massive bacteriuria in pregnant women.
Monural also used for the prevention of urinary tract infections during transurethral diagnostic studies and surgical interventions.
- Hypersensitivity to the components of Monural;
- Children's age up to 5 years;
- Severe renal failure (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml / minute).
Dosing and Administration
The drug is taken orally on an empty stomach, 2 hours before meals or 2 hours after meals (preferably before bedtime), 1 time per day, after emptying the bladder. Immediately before taking the contents of the package is dissolved in 1/3 cup of water.
Adults Monural prescribed in a dose of 3 g (for fosfomycin) once. If necessary (for example, older people, with recurrent or severe infections) after 24 hours, the drug can be taken again in the same dose.
For the prevention of urinary tract infection, the drug is taken in a dose of 3 g 3 hours before surgery or transurethral diagnostic procedures, and in the same dose 24 hours after the first dose.
Children over 5 years old are prescribed 2 g of fosfomycin once.
Patients with renal insufficiency reduce the dose of the drug or increase the interval between doses.

- Other: skin rash, allergic reactions.
The drug can be used during pregnancy and lactation, but only if the intended benefits outweigh the possible risks.
Patients with diabetes should consider the content of sucrose in Monurale: in 1 package 2 g (for fosfomycin) - 2.1 g; in 1 package 3 g (for fosfomycin) - 2.213 g
Monural is not recommended for use simultaneously with metoclopramide, since the latter reduces the concentration of fosfomycin in urine and serum.
