Minoxidil is a drug that stimulates hair growth in androgen-dependent baldness.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - solution for external use of 2% and 5% (60 ml each in polyethylene bottles with a nozzle for spraying and a measuring pump, in a carton box one bottle).
The active ingredient of the drug is minoxidil.
Indications for use
Minoxidil is intended for the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) in men and women.
Contraindications
- Inflammation, soreness, redness and infection of the scalp, including sunburn;
- Pregnancy;
- Lactation;
- Age up to 18 years;
- Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Dosing and Administration
The solution should be applied to the scalp 2 times a day - in the morning and in the evening.
Side effects
Possible dermatological reactions caused by the use of Minoxidil:
- Often: peeling, itching, redness of the scalp;
- Rarely: hypertrichosis (unwanted hair growth on the body, including on the face of women).
In some cases, arterial hypotension occurs.
Increased hair loss is also possible. This phenomenon is temporary, observed during the transition from the resting phase to the phase of hair growth (2-6 weeks after the start of treatment) and stops on its own within 2 weeks.

In the event of irritation and redness at the site of application of the solution, as well as the development of systemic side effects (rapid heartbeat, lowering blood pressure, chest pain, swelling of the legs and / or hands, weight gain, dizziness), you should cancel the drug and carry out appropriate treatment.
In some patients, after the application of Minoxidil, a change in the structure and color of the hair was noted.
Drug interaction
In the case of simultaneous use of drugs containing anthralin (dithranol) or tretinoin, it is possible to enhance the absorption of minoxidil due to changes in the protective function of the skin.
