Release form and composition
Dosage form - eye drops 0.5% and 1% (15 ml each in plastic dropper bottles Drop Tainer, 1 bottle in carton packs).
The active ingredient of the drug is tropicamide. In 1 ml of its solution contains 5 or 10 mg.
Auxiliary components: benzalkonium chloride solution, disodium edetate, sodium chloride, purified water, sodium hydroxide and / or concentrated hydrochloric acid.
Indications for use
Midriacil is used in diagnostics in order to create mydriasis (pupil dilation) or cycloplegia (paralysis of the ciliary muscle of the eye), including when determining refraction and research of the fundus.
Also, the drug is used to expand the pupil before laser (laser coagulation of the retina) and surgical (operations on the vitreous body and retina, cataract extraction) operations.
As part of complex therapy, the drug is prescribed for inflammatory processes, as well as for the prevention of synechia in the postoperative period.
- Glaucoma, especially mixed primary and angle-closure;
- Hypersensitivity to the drug.
1% solution is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.
With caution, Midriacyl should be used in patients with a shallow anterior chamber, as well as with unmeasured or elevated intraocular pressure, with eye inflammation.
Dosing and Administration
0.5% solution is used only to create mydriasis, 1% - cycloplegia.
To study the fundus appoint 1-2 drops of a 0.5% solution for 15-20 minutes before the inspection.
In the study of refraction, 1-2 drops of a 1% solution are prescribed, after 5 minutes the instillation is repeated. If necessary, prolong the effect of the dose is increased by 1 drop.
Most often, patients complain of a burning sensation, which passes on its own within a few minutes.
With the use of Midriacil in high doses, accommodation disturbances, an increase in intraocular pressure, photophobia, an attack of glaucoma are possible.
In some cases, there are systemic reactions (most often in children), such as headache, lowering blood pressure, hyperthermia, tachycardia, transient sensation of burning and dry mouth, psychotic reactions, allergic reactions, collapse.
Midriacil is not intended for injection.
During the period of its application it is impossible to wear soft contact lenses, they should be removed before instillation, and inserted back - no earlier than 15 minutes.
To reduce the risk of systemic side effects, after instillation of the drops, it is recommended to squeeze the tear ducts at the inner corner of the eye for 1-2 minutes.
Patients, especially drivers of vehicles, should consider that after instillation, due to a change in the width of the pupil and accommodation, visual acuity may decrease.
With the simultaneous use of amantadine or quinidine increases the risk of side effects.
The action of Mydriacil can be enhanced by simultaneously applied agents with antimuscarinic properties (phenothiazines, butyrophenones, tricyclic antidepressants, some antihistamines).
