Lysozyme is a drug with anti-inflammatory and bacteriolytic action.
Release form and composition
Lysozyme is produced in the form of a sterile powder: hardly soluble in water and practically alcohol-insoluble amorphous powder or porous mass with a faint smell of acetic acid, white, pH of a 2% solution is 4.2-5.5 (50, 100 or 150 mg each in hermetically sealed vials).
The preparation contains a protein enzyme derived from chicken egg protein (relative molecular weight of about 15,000).
Indications for use
- Chronic septic conditions and purulent processes;
- Conjunctivitis, corneal erosion;
- Burns, frostbite;
- Aphthous stomatitis.
Lysozyme does not irritate tissue, is non-toxic and can be used in the treatment of other infectious diseases with poor tolerance to other antibacterial drugs.
Contraindications
Do not use Lysozyme in the presence of hypersensitivity to the drug.
Dosing and Administration
Lysozyme is applied topically or intramuscularly.
Before use, the preparation contained in the vial should be dissolved in 2-3 ml of a 0.25% solution of novocaine or an isotonic solution of sodium chloride.
Locally Lysozyme is used in ophthalmic practice in the form of installations with a 0.25% solution. The frequency of use - 3-4 times a day, the duration of therapy - 3-7 days.
In otorhinolaryngological practice and for the treatment of chronic nonspecific lung diseases aerosols of 0.05% solution are used. For a session - 2-10 ml, the duration of therapy - 5-14 days.
For the treatment of purulent wounds, frostbite and burns, wipes moistened in a 0.05% solution should be applied.
Intramuscularly Lysozyme is administered 2-3 times a day, 150 mg for at least 7 days. The duration of therapy is up to 1 month.
Side effects
Lysozyme is generally well tolerated.
During the treatment of chronic infections with prolonged intramuscular injection, blood clotting must be controlled.
