Clindacin is a drug for vaginal use with antibacterial action.
Release form and composition
Clindacin is produced in the form:
- Vaginal cream 2% - from white with a creamy or yellowish tinge to white, let's say a slight peculiar smell (20 g or 40 g each in aluminum tubes, 1 tube each in cardboard packs complete with 3 or 7 applicators, respectively);
- Vaginal suppositories are cylindrical, white with a yellowish tint or white, there are no blotches on the longitudinal section, a funnel-shaped recess and a porous and air core are allowed (3 pieces in blisters, 1 pack in cardboard packs).
The composition of 1 dose (5 g) of vaginal cream includes:
- Active ingredient: clindamycin phosphate - 100 mg;
- Auxiliary components: sodium benzoate, 1,2-propylene glycol, castor oil, polyethylene oxide (as an emulsifier).
The structure of 1 suppository includes:
- Active ingredient: clindamycin phosphate - 100 mg;
- Auxiliary components: semi-synthetic glycerides (such as "Witepsol", "Estarinum" or "Supppozir").
Indications for use
Bacterial vaginosis caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active substance of the preparation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Clinical studies of the efficacy and safety of the drug in women in the first trimester of pregnancy have not been conducted, therefore, use of Clindacin is possible only when the expected benefit to the mother is higher than the possible risk to the fetus. At the time of therapy, breastfeeding should be stopped.
Dosing and Administration
The drug is used intravaginally, in the supine position. Vaginal cream is administered using an applicator. Before use, the suppository should be removed from the contour packaging.
The recommended single dose is 1 full applicator (5 g) of vaginal cream or 1 suppository. The drug is recommended to be used immediately before bedtime. The duration of therapy is daily for 3-7 days.
Side effects
When using Clindacin as a cream, allergic reactions, cervicitis, irritation at the injection site, vulvovaginal candidiasis, and vaginitis may develop.
The use of the drug in the form of suppositories can lead to disturbances on the part of certain body systems:
- Hematopoietic organs: rarely - neutropenia, reversible leukopenia, agranulocytosis, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia;
- The reproductive system: vaginitis, cervicitis, vulvovaginal irritation;
- Allergic reactions: urticaria, maculo-papular rash, itching.
special instructions
Safety and efficacy of Clindacin in children has not been established.
Prolonged use of the drug can lead to an overgrowth of microorganisms that do not exhibit sensitivity to it, especially Candida fungi.
Development during use of Clindacin diarrhea cannot be ruled out. In these cases, the drug must be canceled.
Not recommended for simultaneous use with other intravaginal drugs.
Drug interaction
Clindacin enhances the action of aminoglycosides (gentamicin, streptomycin), rifampicin preparations, as well as myorelaxation caused by n-anticholinergic blocking agents.
The drug is incompatible with ampicillin, erythromycin, barbiturates, derivatives of diphenylhydantoin, aminophylline, magnesium sulfate and calcium gluconate.
There is cross-resistance between lincomycin and clindacin.
