Castor oil is a herbal preparation with a laxative effect.
Release form and composition
Castor oil is produced in the forms:
- Capsules of 0.5 g and 1 g; on 10 pieces in blisters, 10 blisters in a box;
- Oil for oral and external use; in vials or bottles of 15 ml, 25 ml, 30 ml, 40 ml, 50 ml, 60 ml, 70 ml, 80 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml.
The active substance is a fatty oil obtained by pressing followed by purification from the seeds of a cultivated castor plant (Ricinus communis L.).
Indications for use
Indications for use of castor oil inside (oil, capsules) are constipation.
Externally, the drug is used to treat wounds, burns, ulcers, with dry skin, dandruff, as well as to strengthen the hair.
Contraindications
Contraindications to the intake of Castor oil inside are:
- Syndrome "acute" abdomen;
- Poisoning with male fern extract, fat-soluble substances (benzene, phosphorus, etc.);
- Hypersensitivity.
Dosing and Administration
Inside adults, the drug is prescribed for 15-30 g, for children - 5-15 g.

With prolonged ingestion may develop intestinal atony.
