Release form and composition
The drug is available in the form of tablets and solution for injection of 10%.
Calcium gluconate tablets for 10 pcs. Placed in a cellular blister packs, in a carton box there are 1 or 2 packs.
Calcium gluconate injectable solution is sold in 10 ml ampoules, and 5 or 10 ampoules are in a carton box.
1 tablet of the drug contains 500 mg of calcium gluconate.
1 ml solution for injection contains 100 mg of calcium gluconate.
Indications for use
Calcium gluconate is used to treat the following diseases:
- Toxic liver damage;
- Parenchymal hepatitis;
- Hyperkalemic form of paroxysmal myoplegia;
- Skin diseases;
- Exudative and inflammatory processes;
- Allergic diseases and drug allergies (as an additional means of therapy);
- Uterine, nasal, gastrointestinal and pulmonary hemorrhages (as an additional hemostatic agent of therapy);
- Poisoning with magnesium salts, oxalic acid and its salts (as an antidote).
Calcium gluconate is not recommended for use in such diseases and conditions:
- Severe hypercalciuria;
- Propensity for thrombosis;
- Severe renal failure;
- Individual hypersensitivity to calcium gluconate.
Dosing and Administration
Calcium gluconate tablets are ingested 1-3 g 2-3 times a day.
Calcium gluconate solution is administered in / in and in / m adults 5-10 ml once. Depending on the condition of the patient and the nature of the disease, the solution is injected daily, every other day or in two days.
Calcium gluconate solution is administered to children according to the following scheme:
- At the age of 7-14 years: 3-5 ml;
- At the age of 4-6 years: 2-2,5 ml;
- At the age of 1-3 years: 1.5-2 ml;
- At the age of 7-12 months: 1-1,5 ml;
- Less than 6 months: 0.1-1 ml.
It is not recommended v / m drug administration in children.
Calcium gluconate sometimes causes side effects such as bradycardia, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. In the case of i / m injection may develop tissue necrosis.
Calcium gluconate is used with caution in patients with urolithiasis, minor renal impairment or with a small hypercalciuria. In such cases, it is necessary to constantly monitor the level of excretion of calcium in the urine.
Patients with a tendency to the formation of calculi in the urine should increase the amount of fluid consumed.
With the simultaneous use of calcium gluconate and calcium channel blockers, a decrease in the action of the latter is observed.
In / in the introduction of a solution of the drug before or after verapamil reduces its hypotensive effect, but does not affect its antiarrhythmic property.
The simultaneous use of calcium gluconate and quinidine can lead to an increase in the toxicity of the latter and to slow intraventricular conductivity.
Calcium absorption from the digestive system is reduced under the influence of Kolestiramine.
Parenteral use of calcium is not recommended during therapy with cardiac glycosides, as the cardiotoxic effect is enhanced.
In the case of simultaneous oral administration of calcium gluconate and tetracyclines, the effectiveness of the latter may be reduced due to a decrease in their absorption.
