Intal - mast cell membrane stabilizer; anti-asthma drug with anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory action.
Release form and composition
Intal is available in the form of:
- Capsules with powder for inhalation 20 mg (10 pcs. In blisters and sachets, 1 blister or 3 sachets per pack);
- Dosed aerosol for inhalation 5 mg / 1 dose (112 doses in aluminum cylinders);
- Solution for inhalation of 10 mg / ml (in ampoules of 2 ml, 48 ampoules per pack).
The active ingredient of the drug is sodium cromoglycate.
Indications for use
Intal is used for the prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma (including physical stress asthma) in adults and children.
Intal is contraindicated:
- In the first trimester of pregnancy;
- Children up to 5 years;
- In case of hypersensitivity to the drug.
Special supervision during treatment is necessary for patients with diseases of the kidneys and liver, pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, and women who are breastfeeding.
Dosing and Administration
For adults and children, the dosing regimen is the same.
Intal aerosol is prescribed in 2 doses 4 times a day. In more severe cases, the dosage is increased to 2 inhalations 6-8 times a day.
Intal solution is used with an ultrasonic, compressor or piezoelectric inhaler through a mouthpiece or face mask. It is prescribed in 1 ampoule 4 times a day, in severe cases the frequency of inhalations is increased to 5-6 per day.
Intal capsules are designed to be used with a Spinhaler inhaler. It is forbidden to take inside! They are appointed by 1 pc. 4 times a day: 1 - in the morning, 1 - at night, 2 - during the day with intervals of 3-6 hours. In severe cases, the daily dose is increased to 6-8 capsules.
Additional extraordinary use of the drug for prophylactic purposes is allowed immediately before exercise.
After reaching the desired therapeutic effect, the dose is reduced.
Possible side effects of Intal:
- On the part of the respiratory system: irritation of the respiratory mucosa, manifested by hoarseness and cough; in some cases - short-term bronchospasm, pulmonary infiltrates with eosinophilia;
- From the side of the central nervous system: dizziness, headache;
- On the part of the HCK: dry mouth, nausea, unpleasant taste sensations;
- On the part of the urinary system: renal dysfunction, urinary retention, painful urination;
- Allergic reactions: rash, laryngeal edema, bronchospasm, angioedema; extremely rarely (no more often than in 1 case out of 100,000) - anaphylaxis.
After discontinuation of the drug may exacerbation of asthma, the development of eosinophilic lung infiltrate.
Sodium cromoglycate is characterized by low toxicity, so overdose is unlikely.
Intal is intended to prevent, rather than relieve, asthma attacks, so the patient should be warned about the need for regular use of the drug.
In the case of bronchospasm, bronchodilators are prescribed, inhalation with which is done before using Intal.
Prevent the occurrence or soothe a cough by taking water immediately after inhalation.
Children should use the inhaler under adult supervision.
Intal can significantly reduce the dose of glucocorticosteroids (GCS), and in some cases even completely abandon their use. Reduce the dosage of corticosteroids should be gradually - by 10% per week. When asthma becomes worse, in the event of infection, as well as with an increased content of antigen in the environment, it may be necessary to increase the dose of GCS again.
If it is necessary to stop treatment, it is recommended to cancel the drug gradually, reducing the dose within a week. It should be borne in mind that the symptoms of asthma may resume.
The effect of sodium cromoglycate is enhanced by GCS, beta-agonist stimulators and antihistamines.
It is forbidden to make inhalation with Intal in combination with ambroxol and bromhexine.
