Dosing and Administration
Hexoral in the form of an aerosol is applied topically. Children older than three years and adult patients are administered a single dose within 1-2 seconds. The drug is used twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening. The aerosol is safe even with more frequent use. The lasting effect of the drug is ensured by the adhesion of hexethidine to the mucous membrane. The use of Geksoral after meals is recommended.
The drug is sprayed into the oral cavity and pharynx. Aerosol allows you to quickly and easily handle the necessary areas, subject to the following actions:
- Place the aerosol tube in the provided opening in the upper part of the bottle, lightly press it and direct the tip of the tube towards you;
- Direct the aerosol tube to the affected area of the mouth or pharynx, holding the bottle bottom down;
- During drug administration, make sure the vial is upright;
- Enter the right amount of medication, pressing on the head of the vial for 1-2 seconds, while injecting hold the breath.
Geksoral solution should be used undiluted to rinse or rinse the mouth. You can also apply the drug on the affected mucous membranes with a tampon. The duration of the procedure is 0.5 minutes, during which 10-15 ml of solution should be used.
The use of Geksoral is mainly positively tolerated by patients, side effects are rare. These are mainly allergic reactions due to hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
With long-term use of Hexoral, a change in taste and discoloration of teeth is possible.
During the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of an antiseptic preparation is not recommended, as there is no data on the use of hexethidine for this category of patients. The exceptions are situations where the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the possible risks to the health of the fetus or baby.
Significant drug interactions Hexoral with other drugs have not been fixed.
If a patient eats a large amount of a drug, symptoms of overdose may develop: nausea and vomiting. Theoretically, swallowing a large amount of the drug by a child can cause ethanol poisoning.
In the event of an overdose, the patient should do a gastric lavage (within two hours after the onset of symptoms) and symptomatic treatment.
Geksoral does not have a significant impact on the ability to control potentially dangerous mechanisms that require increased concentration of attention. When driving a vehicle, it should be borne in mind that the preparation contains alcohol: in 1 dose of the solution - 4.73% alcohol, in 1 dose of the aerosol - 11.6%.
Hexoral solution for lotions and rinses should be used only in cases where the patient has the opportunity to spit out the medicine. In children, Hexoral in the form of a solution is applied from the age when the child can spit out the medicine on his own.
In the case of storage of Geksoral in the refrigerator, the formation of overlaps on the walls of the bottle in the form of points is possible. This is the norm and does not affect the tolerability and activity of the drug.
Structural analogues of Hexoral are drugs:
- Geksoral tabs.
