Desitin is a drug for external use, a dermatoprotector used to treat various inflammatory processes, skin irritations.
Release form and composition
Desitin is produced in the form of an ointment in plastic tubes of 57 g. Zinc oxide (400 mg per 1 g) acts as the active component of the ointment. Auxiliary components of the drug: white petrolatum, anhydrous lanolin, talc, cod liver oil, methylparaben, flavored oil, bottled hydroxyanisole, purified water.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Desitin is indicated for use in the following cases:
- Diaper dermatitis in newborns;
- Superficial skin wounds (abrasions, cuts, scratches);
- Diaper rash;
- Slight burns of any origin, small in size (solar, thermal);
- Cilia in babies;
- Ulcerative skin lesions, including trophic ulcers;
- Bedsores;
- Herpes simplex;
- Streptoderma;
- Eczema during the exacerbation.
Desitin Ointment is used to treat the skin of newborns, as the drug is completely safe, it is not absorbed into the blood, and therefore does not cause side effects. Especially recommended drug for newborns with sensitive skin, which often suffers from diaper dermatitis, various kinds of abrasions, diaper rashes and irritations.
Contraindications
According to the instructions, Desitin is contraindicated only in the presence of hypersensitivity to the active or auxiliary components of the drug. In general, the ointment has no restrictions for use, it can be used even in the presence of severe somatic diseases.
Dosing and Administration
Treatment of diaper dermatitis in infants should begin with the appearance of the first signs of redness, irritation and diaper rash. Ointment is applied with a thin layer on the affected skin up to three times a day. If such a need arises, more frequent use of Desitin is allowed.
The ointment should be applied to clean skin every time after changing a wet diaper in an infant. As a rule, the diaper rash takes place in a child after 2-3 days of applying the ointment; afterwards it is recommended to apply the drug on the skin for some time for prevention.
Prevention of diaper dermatitis is the regular treatment of the skin that is covered with a diaper or diaper. Prophylactic administration of Desitin before bedtime is recommended, since at night there is a high probability that the baby will be in contact with wet diapers for a long period of time.
For the treatment of minor injuries of the skin (scratches, abrasions, thermal and sunburns) apply ointment to the affected skin with a thin layer. If necessary, the affected area can be covered with bandages or gauze sterile wipes.
