Dekaris is an anthelmintic drug prescribed for nematodoses.
Release form and composition
Dekaris is produced in the form of white flat and chamfered tablets, on one side of which there is an engraving "DECARIS 150", in blisters of 1 piece.
Each tablet contains 177 mg of levamisole hydrochloride (which correspond to 150 mg of levamisole) and excipients - sucrose, corn starch, talc, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate and povidone.
They also produce flat light-orange round chamfered Dekaris tablets with a slight apricot smell, on one side of which there is a “+” mark, in blisters of 2 pieces.
The composition of one tablet includes 59 mg of levamisole hydrochloride (which corresponds to 50 mg of levamisole) and such excipients as:
- Dye sunsets sunset yellow (E110);
- Corn starch;
- Sodium saccharinate;
- Magnesium stearate;
- Apricot flavor.
Indications for use
Dekaris is used to infect helminths such as:
- Americanus Ancylostoma duodenale;
- Ascaris lumbricoides.
The use of Dekaris is contraindicated in children under 3 years of age, with hypersensitivity to the components that make up the product, as well as in the following cases:
- Agranulocytosis caused by medication;
- During the period of breastfeeding.
With caution, the drug is prescribed to patients with hepatic or renal failure, as well as in cases of oppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis.
Dosing and Administration
Tablets are taken orally, squeezed with a small amount of water, once in the evening after a meal. Dosage means depends on the age of the patient, namely:
- Adults take 1 tablet (150 mg);
- Patients aged 10-14 years with a body weight of 30-40 kg are prescribed 1.5-2 tablets (50 mg each);
- Children aged 6-10 take 1-1.5 tablets;
- Children aged 3-6 years appoint 25-50 mg Dekaris.
It is allowed to take another dose of the agent, corresponding to the patient's age, after 1-2 weeks after the first use of the drug.
The instructions to Dekaris indicate that the drug may cause such side effects as:
- Feeling of heartbeat;
- Allergic reactions;
- Dyspeptic symptoms - abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
With the use of Decaris in large doses, tremor, agranulocytosis and leukopenia can occur.
Symptoms of a drug overdose are seizures, drowsiness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion and headache. In such cases, gastric lavage, the appointment of symptomatic therapy and the monitoring of vital body functions are required.
It is important during and after the application of Decaris for 24 hours not to drink alcohol.
During the period of drug therapy, patients should be careful in the conduct of potentially hazardous activities that require psychomotor speed and attention. This is due to the fact that Dekaris may cause dizziness.
Care must be taken with the simultaneous use of the drug with drugs that affect blood formation.
150 mg tablets should not be prescribed to children.
It should be borne in mind that Dekaris toxicity can increase lipophilic drugs - henopodium oil, tetrachlorethylene, ether, carbon tetrachloride and chloroform.
The drug is synonymous with levamisole. The analogues of Decaris include Mebendazole, Gelmintoks, Biltricid, Pyrantel, Vormin and Piperazin.
Terms and conditions of storage
In accordance with the instructions, Decaris should be stored in a dark, dry and inaccessible to children place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C.
From pharmacies, the drug is released on prescription. The shelf life of tablets, subject to the recommendations of the manufacturer, is five years.
