Benzyl benzoate is an anti-parasitic drug for external use.
Release form and composition
Benzyl benzoate ointment is made, 1 g of which contains 100 mg or 200 mg of medical benzyl benzoate. In tubes or banks of 25 g.

Indications for use
According to the instructions, benzyl benzoate is indicated for the treatment of head and pubic lice, scabies.
According to the instructions, Benzyl Benzoate is not prescribed in the following cases:
- The period of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- Children age up to three years.
Dosing and Administration
Ointment Benzylbenzoate 10% is prescribed to children, 20% - to adult patients.
The duration of treatment with ointment is four days. On the first day, the ointment is applied in the evening before bedtime after a shower. Ointment lightly rubbed into the skin of the legs, torso, hands, not forgetting the fingers and soles of the feet. After applying the ointment should use only clean clothes and clothes.
On the second and third day, the ointment is not applied, and the patient is not recommended to take a shower. On the fourth day, the patient takes a shower with soap and again applies ointment to the body, replacing the pre-bedding and clothes with clean ones.
Hands after treatment with ointment is not recommended to be washed for three hours. After each hand wash, the drug should be applied again. Completely wash off the ointment from the skin on the fifth day.
Therapy for complicated scabies (pyoderma, dermatitis, postscabial lymphoplasia, eczema) should be carried out in combination with scabies therapy and, if necessary, will continue after the end of Benzyl Benzoate.
In the treatment of scabies in children whose age has not reached 5 years, it is recommended to dilute the benzyl benzoate ointment in warm, boiled water in a 1: 1 ratio before applying and stir until a uniform consistency is obtained.
In the treatment of pediculosis, the drug is applied to the scalp, slightly rubbing, and the head is tied up with a kerchief on top. After half an hour, the medicine is washed off with a large amount of water and rinsed with warm hair with vinegar 5%. Then, the hair should be thoroughly washed with soap or shampoo and combing the head with a comb with a frequent comb to remove nits.
After one day, the effectiveness of using benzyl benzoate is evaluated, and if the effect is unsatisfactory, the procedure is repeated in the same sequence.
For pubic pediculosis, benzyl benzoate ointment is rubbed into the skin of the abdomen, pubis, inner thighs, and inguinal folds.
Before using benzyl benzoate in the form of an emulsion, 20 ml of the drug are preliminarily diluted in 78 ml of warm water and 2 g of household shredded soap. The finished emulsion should be thoroughly shaken. The suspension is moistened with a cotton or gauze tampon and rubbed into the skin (with the exception of the neck, face, head). After the preparation has been applied to the skin, you should wait about 10 minutes, after which the suspension should be applied again.
In children whose age has not reached 3 years, instead of 20 ml of the emulsion, add 10 ml for the same proportions of water and laundry soap.
When lice suspension is rubbed into the scalp, carefully making sure that it does not get the patient in the eye. After the suspension is applied, clean clothes should be put on the patient’s body and bed linen should be changed.
Hands after treatment should not be washed for three hours, and subsequently after each wash it is necessary to apply the suspension on the skin.
You can wash in the bath only three days after the procedure.
Benzyl benzoate can cause local reactions, especially in pediatric patients, such as skin irritation, burning sensation.
In order to avoid reinfection, all patients who are in the same site of infection should be treated simultaneously.
After the use of benzyl benzoate, itching on the skin may persist for some time, this is not an indication for a repeated course of therapy. As a rule, itching is a reaction of the body to a dead tick and its waste products. If it interferes with the patient, it is recommended to appoint him corticosteroid ointment or antihistamine drugs.
For two weeks after treatment, the doctor should be checked, and if the need arises, even longer.
It is recommended to avoid getting Benzyl Benzoate on the mucous membranes and in the eye area, as there is a strong burning sensation. Young children after applying the drug on the skin should wear a vest with closed sleeves.
All clothes and underwear that have been in contact with infected skin should be thoroughly processed - boiled in a solution of detergent for 10-15 minutes.
After drying, clothes and underwear should be ironed with a hot iron on both sides or hung out in the open air for three days.
Shoes and toys should be removed from use for 5 days and placed in a plastic bag. Upholstered furniture is recommended to be treated with disinsection preparations.
In the case of Benzyl Benzoate in the mouth should be rinsed with plenty of water or soda solution with warm drinking 2%.
If the drug gets into the eyes, wash them abundantly with water or a solution of baking soda, and if irritation occurs in the eye mucosa, drip a 30% sulfanilamide solution behind the eyelid.
Benzyl benzoate has no structural analogues.
