Azitral is a broad-spectrum antibiotic.
Release form and composition
Azitral is produced in the form of hard gelatin capsules of size "0", which contain white powder. The main active component of Azitral is azithromycin, its content in one capsule is 250 mg or 500 mg (depending on the form of release). Additional components are: anhydrous lactose, sodium lauryl sulfate, corn starch, titanium dioxide, purified water, magnesium stearate, gelatin, propylbaraben, methyl paraben.
Indications for use
According to the instructions to Azithral, the drug is effective in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of azithromycin. In particular, the drug is used for:
- infections of the upper respiratory tract and upper respiratory tract (including with tonsillitis, sore throat, pharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis media);
- lower respiratory tract infections, including atypical and bacterial types of pneumonia, bronchitis;
- scarlet fever;
- infections of soft tissues and skin (secondarily infected dermatosis, impetigo, erysipelas);
- with urogenital infections (cervicitis, urethritis, gonorrheal urethritis);
- Lyme disease in the initial stage;
- peptic ulcer of the duodenum and stomach, only as an element of combination therapy.
Contraindications
The use of Azital should be discarded in the following cases:
- severe renal or hepatic failure;
- hypersensitivity to azithromycin or other components of Azitral;
- lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactose intolerance.
Also taking Azitral is contraindicated in children under 12 years old, or weighing less than 45 kg; those taking ergotamine and dihydroergotamine; mothers during breastfeeding.
Azitral should be used with caution by patients taking warfarin, terfenadine, digoxin, as well as those with hepatic and / or renal insufficiency, arrhythmia, susceptibility to arrhythmia.
Dosing and Administration
Azitral is taken one hour before meals, or 2 hours after it. The frequency of admission - once a day. The dosage varies depending on the type and severity of the disease.
Treatment of infections of the respiratory tract (both lower and upper sections) is carried out by taking 500 mg of Azitral per day. The duration of treatment is 3 days.
For infections of soft tissues and skin, adults are advised to take 1 g of medication on the first day of administration, and later on, 500 mg every day, starting from the second and on the fifth day of treatment.
Treatment of uncomplicated urethritis or cervicitis is carried out by taking 1 g of Azitral once.
In the initial stage of borreliosis, 1 g of the drug is taken on the first day of treatment and then, from 2 to 5 days, 500 mg each.
In case of duodenal ulcer or stomach, caused by Helicobacter pylori, 1 g of Azitral should be taken per day. The treatment is carried out in conjunction with other anti-helicobacter drugs. The duration of treatment with Azitral is 3 days.
As indicated in the instructions to Azitral, the calculation of the required dosage of the drug for children is carried out according to the formula: 10 mg of medicine per 1 kg of weight of the child. The resulting number corresponds to a single daily dosage of the drug. This treatment regimen is recommended to follow 3 days. According to a different scheme, Azitral on the first day should be taken in the amount of 10 mg / kg of baby weight, and in the three remaining days - 5-10 mg per day. The calculation of the course dose is made according to the formula: 30 mg per 1 kg of the child’s weight.
Treatment of erythema migrans is carried out by applying Azitral in the amount of 20 mg / kg once on the first day of administration, on the following days (from 2 to 5) at 10 mg / kg of weight.
Side effects
During the use of Azitral, the occurrence of undesirable reactions is unlikely. In rare cases, it may cause ailments on the part of the digestive system: diarrhea, nausea, pain in the stomach, dyspepsia, vomiting, flatulence, melena, cholestatic jaundice. In children, Azitral may cause constipation, gastritis, and anorexia.
On the part of the cardiovascular system, side effects are pain in the chest and increased heart rate.
Disorders in the nervous system, triggered by Azitral, can be as follows: headache, drowsiness, dizziness. In addition, children may experience anxiety, hyperkinesia, sleep disorders, neurosis.
Undesirable reactions of the urogenital system are nephritis and vaginal candidiasis.
Allergic reactions: angioedema, rash, photosensitivity.
Other adverse reactions: fatigue, and in children: itching, conjunctivitis, urticaria.

When you skip taking the missed dose should be taken as soon as possible.
The instructions to Azitral indicate that even after the withdrawal of the medication, allergic reactions may persist.
In case if antacid preparations are taken simultaneously with Azitral, it is necessary to observe a break between taking these two agents for at least 2 hours.
