Ascocin is a combination drug containing zinc and ascorbic acid, affecting carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, regulates metabolic processes.
Release form and composition
Askotsin chewable tablets are made with an orange flavor.
1 tablet contains:
- 100 mg of ascorbic acid;
- 400 mg of sodium ascorbate;
- 15 mg of zinc.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Askotsin is intended for persons with hypo-and avitaminosis C.
As part of complex therapy, the drug is prescribed to patients with infectious diseases, disorders of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, decreased immunity, impaired function of the endocrine glands, pathologically increased vascular permeability, and decreased elasticity of the vascular wall.
It is advisable to assign Ascotsin as part of the combined treatment to persons with liver diseases, Addison's disease, long-term non-healing bone fractures and wounds, nephropathy of pregnant women.
According to the instructions, Askotsin is not prescribed for:
- Hypersensitivity to ascorbic acid and other components of the drug;
- Diabetes mellitus.
Askotsin is not intended for use in pediatric practice.
In the application of Askotsin caution should be exercised when:
- Impaired renal function;
- Lack of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
- Sideroblastic anemia;
- Progressive cancer.
Dosing and Administration
Askotsin is intended for internal use. The tablets are chewed and washed down with a small amount of water.
Askotsin taken after a meal. The duration of treatment and the dosage of medication the attending physician selects individually. As a rule, the drug is prescribed in a dose of 1 tablet per day.
In case of avitaminosis of moderate severity, infectious diseases, it is allowed to increase the dose of Ascotsin to 2 tablets per day for 1 week.
With long-term treatment with Ascoqin, the use of high doses of medication, patients should monitor the function of the kidneys and pancreas, blood pressure, plasma glucose levels.
In general, Ascotsin patients are well tolerated. With prolonged treatment in high doses may develop the following side effects:
- Central nervous system: violation of sleep and wakefulness, headache, irritability;
- Digestive system: nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, vomiting;
- Allergies: skin rash, itching, hives;
- Other reactions: the formation of urinary and oxalate stones.
Erythrocyte hemolysis may develop in patients with a lack of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
Askotsin use in pregnant women is allowed only on prescription. If a woman takes other medicines containing ascorbic acid (including multivitamins), they should be discontinued before taking Ascocin. High dosages of ascorbic acid may adversely affect fetal development.
During breastfeeding, Askotsin is prescribed with caution, taking into account the intake of ascorbic acid in the woman's body with food and other medications.
Ascotsin in combination with tetracycline, ethinyl estradiol, benzylpenicillin, salicylates increases their plasma concentrations in the blood.
The drug reduces the therapeutic effect of oral contraceptives and coumarin anticoagulants.
While taking corticosteroid drugs, salicylates, calcium chloride, quinolone drugs, there is a decrease in reserves of zinc and ascorbic acid.
The combined use of Ascotsin with deferoxamine may increase tissue toxicity of the glands, which can lead to the development of decompensation of the circulatory system. Therefore, if necessary, combinations of these drugs Askotsin should be used no earlier than 2 hours after the administration of deferoxamine.
In high doses, Ascotsin reduces the therapeutic effect of tricyclic antidepressants.
In the case of the use of drugs in high dosages may develop symptoms of overdose:
- Spastic abdominal pain;
- Impaired digestion and stool;
- Decreased kidney function;
- Sleep disturbances;
- Excessive excitability of the nervous system;
- Allergic reactions.
In the event of the above symptoms, symptomatic treatment is recommended.
Structural analogues Askotsin has not. The following drugs have a similar therapeutic effect:
- Vitamin C;
- Dog-rose fruit;
- Vita-Gem S;
Terms and conditions of storage
According to the instructions, Askotsin should be stored in a cool place inaccessible to children, not longer than 2 years from the date of manufacture.
