5-NOK - uroantiseptics, an antimicrobial drug intended for systemic use.
Release form and composition
Available medication in the form of coated tablets of orange color, each of which contains:
- 50 mg of nitroxoline;
- Such excipients as crospovidone, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, purified talc, calcium hydrogen phosphate, corn starch, povidone K25, magnesium stearate.
The composition of the film shell includes: titanium dioxide, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, acacia gum, purified talc, calcium carbonate, sucrose, carmellose sodium, K25 fluids, and also dyes - sunset E110 yellow sunset and yellow quinoline E104.
Indications for use 5-NOC
The official instructions for 5-NOK indicate that this antibacterial drug is intended for the treatment of chronic and recurrent infectious diseases of the urinary tract, if they are caused by microorganisms sensitive to nitroxoline. In particular, it is prescribed for therapy:
- Cystitis (acute, chronic, secondary, post-traumatic);
- Infected prostate adenoma;
- Carcinomas of the prostate gland of infectious genesis.
Also, 5-NOK, according to the instructions, can be used to prevent infectious complications in patients who had surgery on the kidney or urinary tract the day before.
The feasibility of using 5-NOK before conducting diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, such as cystoscopy and catheterization, has been confirmed.
This drug is also prescribed for the prevention of recurrent infectious diseases of the urinary tract.
According to the instructions for the drug, 5-LCM should not be taken:
- Patients with renal failure, if creatinine clearance does not reach the mark of 20 ml per minute;
- People with severe renal failure;
- Pregnant women;
- In the period of lactation (if necessary, use of 5-NOK in this period, the woman should stop breastfeeding);
- Children under 3 years old (for babies this drug is not prescribed because of the "uncomfortable" form of release and high dosage);
- In the presence of hypersensitivity to quinolines, nitroklolina or any of the auxiliary components of the drug.
Method of application and dosage of 5-NOK
Adult patients 5-NOC prescribed in a daily dosage of 400 to 800 mg, which is divided into four doses.
The average daily dose is 400 mg, i.e. 2 tablets four times a day. In severe cases of the disease it is increased to 800 mg, i.e. 4 tablets four times a day.
For children from 3 years old, the drug is prescribed at a dosage of 200-400 mg, which corresponds to one or two tablets. They should also be taken four times a day.
The duration of treatment should be determined by the attending physician, based on data on the type of disease and the severity of its course.
In chronic diseases, 5-NOK is recommended to be taken in courses for 2 weeks with two-week breaks, but the decision on re-treatment can only be taken by a specialist after receiving the results of the examination in order to assess the patient's condition and determine the feasibility of continuing treatment.
Patients with moderate renal insufficiency (provided that creatinine clearance exceeds the mark of 0.33 ml / s) and abnormal liver function reduce the widow's standard dosage.
Elderly patients do not require dose adjustment of 5-NOK.

Side effects of 5-NOK
Against the background of the use of 5-NOK, according to reviews, the development of such side effects of the drug as:
- Nausea, vomiting;
- Heightened liver transaminase activity;
Also, 5-NOK, in the opinion of patients, can cause the development of allergic reactions, which are manifested by skin rash and are caused by hypersensitivity to one of the components included in the preparation.
According to the results of urine analysis, an increase in the level of uric acid can be determined.
All drugs that include nitroxoline, including 5-NOK, should not be used simultaneously with medicines containing hydroxyquinolines or their derivatives.
The simultaneous use of nitroxoline with levorin and nystatin leads to the mutual enhancement of the pharmacological action, and when it is taken with drugs of the tetracycline group, the effects are summed.
The absorption of the active substance is slowed down when using 5-NOK with antacid agents containing magnesium.
Nitroxoline reduces the effectiveness of nalidixic acid.
To prevent the summation of the negative neurotropic effect, it is prohibited to take 5-NOC in parallel with the substances of the nitrofuran group.
The course of treatment with the use of 5-NOC should not be conducted more than 4 weeks in a row. If long-term therapy is still required, you must constantly monitor the function of the kidneys and liver.
All patients who were prescribed 5-NOK, should be borne in mind that against the background of its use, the urine is stained in a saturated yellow-red color. This is considered normal and is not a reason to discontinue the drug.
Structural analogues of the drug 5-NOK are Nitroxolin and Uroxin.
According to belonging to one pharmacological group, mechanism of action and, consequently, the effect exerted by analogues of 5-NOK are the following drugs: Dioxidine, Dioxisol, Zyvox, Kirin, Kubitsin, Lysolid, Linezolid, Linemax, Trobitsin, Fosmicin, Phoforal.
Terms and conditions of storage
If the storage conditions recommended by the manufacturer are observed - dry, cool (at temperatures up to 25 ° C) and protected from direct sunlight, the shelf life of 5-NOK is 5 years.
